Mathew Bergan is the founder of Dancing Warrior Yoga. He enjoyed a professional career in dance and choreography throughout the eighties and nineties; he then turned to Hatha yoga with Shandor Remete in 1990 to compliment his dance training. Mathew has been teaching yoga since 1993 and today dedicates himself to the practice and teaching of the Dancing Warrior Yoga style.

Mathew completed Anatomy, Physiology and Teacher Training with Yoga Synergy between 1998 and 2003. During the same period he furthered his study, learning Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga with Trevor Tangye, Eileen Hall and Sri K Pattabhi Jois, and tending master yoga workshops with Emma Balnaves, Geeta Iyengar, Donna Farhi, Clive Sheridan and TKV Desikachar. In 2003 Mathew studied Hatha yoga and pranayama (breathwork) in India with Clive Sheridan.

A holder of an Advanced Diploma in Sports Massage, he integrates his knowlege of bodywork within Dancing Warrior Yoga classes. From teaching yoga to dance companies, TV stations, law firms, children, gymnasiums, footballers and celebrities Mathew has learned that yoga asana is not a "one size fits all" panacea and welcomes the challenges that arise from the unpredictable landscape of the human body.

Mathew has devised a style for those that have yoga on their mind and movement in their bones. His style fuses the kinetic qualities of movement with the muscular/skeletal foundations of Hatha yoga and cyclic breathing. Each class stretches, strengthens and tones the body while drawing upon a measured breath cycle. The classes are enjoyable and informative, offering every student the chance to experience their bodies and minds intelligently.

Today, as well as running his own Yoga School, based in two Sydney locations, he teaches on-site yoga and pilates courses for various organizations in Sydney.

"An energy shifter a physical sculptor, a soul guide, the Dancing Warrior playfully contributes to the alchemy of contemporary yoga... When we move our bodies stillness of the mind becomes possible. When we recognise the dynamic in the harmonic we experience the healing and transformative effects of stillness", Mathew Bergan
